In the Erongo Mountains, we climbed up to the granite walls of the “Hohenstein mountain”. Very impressive to see how the “small miners” work in the pockets. At the moment they find Aquamarin, Schorl and Fluorite in decent quality. New good finds at the “Goboboseb Mountains” are rare. It’s a difficult work in very hard rock with temperatures above 40 degrees Celcius. Most of the crystals at the moment have a pale violet color, but we were lucky to get also some higher quality Amethyst. The “Brandberg region” as a nature park is closed for mining activities. But every time I come here, there are new flats of the characteristic deep blue Amethysts for sale. Guided from the “White Lady Lodge”, we were lucky to see several elephants.

 

Quality and quantity of the major mineral finds of the past years has slowed down, but from time to time it’s still possible to get very nice specimens. I’m sure, that the Erongo mountains will continue to bring new exciting treasures.
